(b) (i) Reflection on how I used ICT in the class.

During my teaching practice (TP) I used a projector my topic was about to demonstrate different types of fruits and vegetables to the level 2 trainees. It was a good experience as same trainees didn’t know that fruits and vegetables can be categorised in certain groups and how they look like. My pictures on the PowerPoint slides where very clear and understanding. Trainees got to engage more as they asked questions and discuss in groups. I choose that topic because in hospitality as chefs they will have to know different types of fruits and vegetables and how they are prepared. My positive experience is that it was reliable using PowerPoint. When I marked their quizzes you could see that they understood the topic better. But my negative experience was that at the centre the projector was just one you had to book before using it and it didn’t have a pointer whereby each time you want to explain something new you had to go back to the main desk to change or point out with your fingers. Yes I would use the ICT tool again as it has developed new ways of teaching and learning. It enhances learning by providing better understanding of the topic as well as motivating trainees.

  1. Technology has just been developed in VTCs, so having one projector is to determine if the tool is useful to the centre. I believe from the positive feedback on the quizzes the centre, will see that using the ICT tool is the best method in delivering the content. PowerPoint is one of the effective tool in presenting a lesson, we can bring novelty to our lessons by adding pictures, animation and videos. I disagree with you there PPT is not reliable, files may be lost as a result of a computer virus or accidental deletion and projector required electricity to operate, what if there is not power that day.

  2. PowerPoint is a very important in lesson presentation as it keeps the students more focused and engaged. It gets very difficult if one cannot get access to these tools as often as one would like and its something that we trainers need encourage our centers to invest in, as these lesson presentation methods will also contribute to the increase of performance of the students. Sometimes in your class you find different students with different learning styles who prefer to hear or see an contents for them to capture it. Using PowerPoint presentation also reduces cost, because instead of buying the fruits every time you need to show the students you can use the pictures instead.
